Creating high performing leaders in a UK multi-academy schools trust

24 headteachers and deputies facing increasing complexity needed a progamme designed to build resilient, future focussed, human-centred leadership

The Learning Journey: What we did

Pre-meeting and planning: Understanding the organisation, its people, and their aims was key to co-create a meaningful programme plan.

Modular Structure: 6 modules were delivered with each focused on one core leadership capability — connection, goal creation, change, coaching, celebration and challenging conversations

Collaborative Learning: Workshops were delivered face to face, over 18 months, featuring facilitated conversations, self-reflection, peer coaching, peer inquiry, and the real-world application of simple practical tools.

Conversation over Content: Learning sessions were dialogue-based, encouraging the collective sharing of knowledge and experience across the group, individual reflection, and action planning to take things forwards.

The Value We Created

Our programme is now a model for regional leadership development with its alumni shaping system-wide initiatives and mentoring new people in their own schools.

Participants’ goals became more aligned and there was greater individual ownership of personal and professional development across the trust.

All the participants reported increased knowledge about the importance of connection to lead well and had personally experienced the transformative impact of high-performance, appraisal conversations.

Creating tangible leadership value in an open cohort of experienced leaders

We work with open groups and corporate ones. Here, we delivered our Brilliant Basics programme to a group of experienced leaders from across a wide range of UK organisations to leverage the power of group conversation and cross pollination of ideas

The Learning Journey: What we did

Getting the core fundamentals of high EQ leadership right

We brought a diverse group of 12 leaders together from the public sector, financial services, 3rd sector, professional services and a multinational food company to bond, connect and explore what great leadership for each of them would look like.

We facilitated 6 weekly modules to explore how to connect, look after teams, demystify coaching, have high quality challenging conversations and celebrate members of their teams appropriately. All of these areas are designed to reconnect leaders with best practice for getting the most out of others and increasing performance.

Conversation in Community

We worked together in a series of highly engaging, virtual workshops with interactive breakouts letting our cohort discover and share together, realising they were not alone in facing shared leadership issues in their respective organisations.

The Value We Created

Our participants deployed new tools and techniques in between their weekly workshops so they practised in their BAU straightaway. This was essential to starting to change behaviours.

Our leader group improved the quality of their coaching with their teams, the level & nature of challenging feedback they were able to give and developed their own ‘celebration strategy’ to recognise their people and increase engagement from their teams.
